For non separable small ball bearings, use one hand to support the inner ring horizontally and rotate the outer ring to confirm smoothness. Conical roller bearings and equally spaced bearings allow for separate inspection of the rolling elements and outer race raceway surfaces. Large bearings cannot be rotated by hand, so it is important to check the appearance of the rolling elements, raceway surfaces, retainers, and retaining surfaces.
